Spring is a time for new beginnings and a refreshed outlook on the months ahead.
As the weather starts to warm up, it's a sign to bust open your windows - and, perhaps a bit less exciting, your cleaning supplies cabinet.
Whether you are thinking about enjoying those sunny summer days on your patio, or maybe you are looking to put the for sale sign up in your yard, either way - spring cleaning is a great way to start and there is no better time than the present.
During snowy winter months in Muskoka, we tend to hibernate inside our homes - and this past winter we had no choice but to stay at home. But now spring brings us more sun, warmer temperatures and the urge to get outside again! It's the one time of year when tidying up and reorganizing your home can feel like less of a chore and more of a celebration of the changing seasons – a coming out of hibernation, which we all need right now.
Doing some preparation and cleaning now will only pay off later when those summer days hit and all you want to do is relax and enjoy the summer season in your sparking clean and refreshed home.
It may be surprising, but a clean and decluttered home can have a huge impact on a potential buyer’s impression and help them envision it as their own. In addition, a clean home and small renovations can greatly increase your resale value.
Here are some of our personal tips that we have seen firsthand help increase a home’s value.
1. Declutter
Decluttering will make your home feel larger and more open so that potential buyers can see the space and envision their own belongings in each room. (As a bonus, you’ll have less to pack when it’s time for you to move!)
2. Improve Curb Appeal
Think about the first impression it will make on potential buyers. Clean up the landscaping and gardens, repair cracks in the driveway and walkways to give your property an instant facelift.
3. A Fresh Coat of Paint
One of the most simple but effective changes you can make to a house is adding a fresh coat of paint both the inside and the outside of the house. Stick with soft, neutral colors to appeal to the widest audience and make your home feel light, and airy.
4. Clean the Floors
Floors are one of the top features potential buyers notice. Repair wood floors where needed, clean carpets and re-grout tiles to make your floors look clean and fresh.
5. Organize Everything
Organize your closets, drawers, the garage, the basement, crawlspaces, etc. because yes, potential buyers will look at these spaces and if they are cluttered, dirty or unorganized it does not represent the potential of your home very well.
6. Wash the Windows
Sparkling clean windows will be noticed by potential buyers from the inside and the outside. While you’re moving from room to room washing the windows, check for any necessary repairs as well.
By taking on these simple spring cleaning tasks now, you could see a "SOLD" sign in your front yard before you know it.
The spring cleaning tasks are up to you, (while we tackle our own home cleaning and renovation projects), but if you have questions about the current high-demand Real Estate Market, we encourage you to contact us, we would LOVE to hear from you! Let us help you!
